There are plenty of doughnuts to try, including strawberry, vanilla dip and apple fritter. Don’t miss the signature timbits – bite-sized doughnuts which come in a variety of flavours from Canadian maple and chocolate dip to Boston cream.I Love Manchester: Where to fulfil your doughnut desires in Manchester4.2(2572)•Mentioned on2 lists 282-286 Bury New Rd, Manchester, Salford, M7 2YJ, United Kingdom•http://www.timhortons.co.uk/2Siop Shop. SaveCafeDonut shopThe Manchester Doughnut Company was started by local chef Ed Beech seeking to fill a gap in the market for more eclectic donut flavours. Handmade in small batches, Ed creates flavour combinations such as white chocolate and pumpkin donuts, butterscotch and bourbon donuts and donuts topped with Crunchy Nut Cereals!. The secret to these donuts is the slow proving process used to make the dough (although covering them in butterscotch once they’ve been fried can’t hurt either eh?) You can find these beauties at The King’s Arms, and at The Makers Market in Spinningfields and Didsbury every month.Society19 UK: 5 Donut Shops In Manchester That Are Too Good To Ignore4.8(488)•Mentioned on2 lists 53 Tib St, Manchester, M4 1LS, United Kingdom•http://siopshop.co/3Black Milk Northern Quarter. BodyDOH! A dozen of the best independent doughnuts in Manchester Confidentials 13 July 2021 Old school jam-filled doughnuts, neon icing drenched ones, vegan brioche rings and even sourdough-nuts . What do Homer Simpson, boy racers in car parks and traditional British seaside resorts all have in common? Come on, you’ve read the title of this article, it’s doughnuts, silly. Manchester is jam-packed full of them these days. You can’t move without one hitting you in the face. Like most delicious baked goods, everyone wants to say they invented doughnuts. My nan, your nan, English cookbooks from 1803 and a 16-year-old American sailor called Hanson Gregory (what have you done with your life, eh?) all claim to have invented the humble doughnut but the ‘nut world doesn’t live in the past, it moves forward. Doughnuts, or donuts if you’re American, have been given a glow-up with new flavours, new textures, and fillings that don’t squirt down your shirt when you bite in. Putting such a list together hasn’t been easy. The research has been gruelling. Icing blindness, intense sugar rushes, mood swings and dramatic shaking are just a few of the things we’ve put ourselves through. But we’ve come out the other side in a higher state of consciousness with a list of the best doughnuts the city of Manchester has to offer. Barbakan. While we love amped-up, social media-prettified doughnuts, we also have a soft spot for an old-school jammy ‘nut. Barbakan Deli in Chorlton has been producing Polish loaves and pastries for nearly 60 years so it’s had plenty of time to perfect its sugar-drenched rings and special pączki, traditional polish doughnuts stuffed with almost too much raspberry filling. Enjoy in the outside seating area with a coffee and a strategic heap of paper napkins as you watch Chorlton go by Barbakan 67-71 Manchester Rd, Chorlton-cum-Hardy, Manchester M21 9PW Chinnywala . There’s a place for all doughnut kinds in Manchester and Longsight new kid Chinnywala does the sort of doughnuts that bring to mind the freak shakes of yesteryear. We’re talking very stacked, substantially-topped doughnuts. Sprinkles upon sprinkles - upon sprinkles. Unlike a lot of other independents, however, there's a level of customisation. All doughnuts are served with sugar and chocolate sauce with a choice of sauces and toppings that range from bubblegum and strawberry to popping candy and Aero mint. Hamilton Road, Longsight, Manchester, M13 0PB D G H N T . Northern Quarter-based kitchen baking operation D G H N T brings a serious conundrum: are these doughnuts just too aesthetically pleasing to eat? Do we want to touch the delicate pieces of citrus on top of the doughnuts in the limited-edition Middle Eastern box, for instance? Or do we just want to stare at them forever and imagine how good they taste? Can you be hypnotised by the beauty of a doughnut? Snap out of it. No doughnut is too beautiful to eat. With orders available direct through Instagram and pop-ups at Corner Slice and Mackie Mayor for picking up a few in person, recent flavours on the menu (updated weekly) have included raspberry pistachio cheesecake and lemon poppy seed. Freda’s Place. Based in Salford, Freda’s Place is the passion project of Manchester pastry chef Caitlin Freda who set the business up whilst on furlough. She makes among other things, extremely picturesque brioche doughnuts with oozing centres, think salted caramel custard or strawberries and cream. There are also inventive options like a s’more doughnut inspired by the American summer camp snack and a marshmallow glazed doughnut topped with charred marshmallows. Freda’s Place is limited to pop-ups and custom orders so keep an eye on its Instagram for updates. Glazed. To truly embrace the doughnut life you need to come with an open mind and an open heart to whatever the doughnut life gives you. You need to reconfigure your mental interpretation of the concept of what a doughnut is. Long story short, not only does Glazed do sourdough doughnuts (a Manchester first), with natural yeast and a dough that’s left for 20 hours to produce light and fluffy doughnuts, but it's also straying from the circular status quo. Yes, Glazed deals in brioche finger doughnuts too. There’s a hidden advantage to sourdough doughnuts - they’re easier to digest. Thus, technically, you can fit a few more in without feeling ill. Brioche is usually reserved for the classics (vanilla custard, strawberry jam and chocolate cream), whilst sourdough is used for something a bit more adventurous (salted caramel, cherry Bakewell, lemon meringue). Gooey . The little glass box that Gooey sits in at the entrance to Ducie Street Warehouse (there's one at Hatch on Oxford Road now too) always reminds us of the box offices at American cinemas. A doughnut at Gooey isn’t entry for one, it’s more like a one-way ticket to tasty town. Gooey by name, gooey by nature. Handmade daily in the Ducie Street Warehouse kitchen, Gooey’s brioche doughnuts range from the classics (raspberry jam, vanilla custard and chocolate) to more flamboyant weekly specials like a Nutella-filled crème brûlée doughnut complete with oozing centre and crunchy caramel topping. Combo boxes are available for delivery if you fancy mixing and matching Gooey's enormous cookies and new choux buns. Ducie Street Warehouse, Ducie Street, Manchester M1 2TP /  KRUM . If you’re yet to be convinced by the wonders of anything labelled 100% plant-based, the doughnut sphere might be a place to change your mind. Krum is flying the vegan doughnut flag with a head baker who earned her candy stripes at Fauchon in Paris. It always seems to be doing something especially interesting whether that’s teaming up with Bundobust on a limited-edition Mango Bhai doughnut (brioche dough, mango and vanilla compote, vanilla compote, vanilla caramel, gold-dusted chocolate popcorn and candied fennel seeds) or conjuring up its opulent triple gold - a doughnut with its own crown. Krum has been on somewhat of a hiatus of late, having previously been stationed at Freight Island but a little firebird told us it's on the hunt for a permanent, bricks n mortar premises where it will not only bake vegan doughnuts but a whole range of plant-based patisserie. Holler if you know the perfect new plant-base for Krum.  Siop Shop. Tib Street’s brightly coloured pastry palace Siop Shop is a good spot for giving a doughnut a good seeing to - with the added bonus of indoor and outdoor seating. Siop’s ‘nuts are a more bready example of the genre compared to its brioche-orientated comrades and where others go with a more dazzle camouflage approach to toppings and aesthetics, Siop keeps it colourful and refined. The permanent menu includes classic glaze, vanilla custard and raspberry jam, but weekly specials have included a strawberry and mint filled number and a maple and blueberry-glazed ring. The open-plan kitchen behind the till also means you can chomp and chef watch which is always fun. 53 Tib Street, Manchester M4 1LS Suburban Donut. If sweets and biscuits on doughnuts are your thing, consider Suburban Donut, a big fan of putting everything from Oreos to Daim bars on top of doughnuts. Available in classic American topped ring format or brioche filled, they’re available for delivery in and around Manchester from Suburban's Sale bakery. Bestseller, the Cherry Bakewell, packs almond icing, dark chocolate and Morello cherry jam with a cherry Bakewell pie propped on top for good measure. Sweet Baige. A relative newbie on the Manchester doughnut scene, Sweet Baige was born out of a lockdown baking passion project in May 2020 that quickly took off as a small bakery selling bespoke cakes, cookies and doughnuts. The doughnuts in question are of the fluffy brioche variety and are available to order in small batches on select weekends. Flavours include Biscoff, Nutella and Kinder, with delivery options and pickup available. They sell out pretty quickly so ordering early is advised. Teatime Collective. Teatime Collective might be best known for its impressive bespoke vegan cakes but it also does a nice line in vegan doughnuts. Not one to discriminate between glazed rings and filled centres, the vegan doughnut offering is another on the more spectacular side with vibrant bubblegum colours and indulgent toppings. Teatime Collective's black forest gateau separates it from the pack, as does the jammy dodger doughnut. There's also an off-menu doughnut cake, the ultimate birthday treat for aficionados. St. Wilfrids Enterprise Centre, Royce Road, Hulme, Manchester, M15 5BJ Yes! Doughnuts. Not to be confused with YES of pink room and rooftop cult status, Yes! Doughnuts of GRUB Manchester fame makes indulgent vegan doughnuts, which is nice because vegans deserve the sort of doughnut that comes with a syringe of sauce sticking out of it too. Doughnuts don’t get more theatrical than this. Choose from inventive flavours like Life’s A Beach (Sicilian lemon sea glaze, cheesecake crumb sand, crunchy chocolate honeycomb beach ball, complete with cocktail umbrella) and Make Fetch Happen (vegan white chocolate glaze, raspberry jelly filling, freeze-dried raspberry pieces and toasted pink glitter almonds). Er, yes! GRUB, Red Bank Project, 50 Red Bank, Manchester, M4 4HF Read next: 'Dark, witchy madness' - OSMA Kitchen and Bar, Prestwich, reviewed. BodyFirst look inside Siop Shop - Manchester's new doughnut and coffee shopThe superstar bakers of Blawd are opening their first café in the Northern QuartermenShareCommentsByLucy LovellWhat's On writer17:34, 12 OCT 2017Updated17:59, 12 OCT 2017What's OnThe Northern Quarter has a smart new addition to its food and drink line-up. Blawd bakery has made a name for itself making some of the best cakes and doughnuts in Manchester. Previously working from a basement kitchen in Common, the superstar bakers are rising with the launch of their first cafe, SiOP SHOP. Owned by Iwan Roberts and Lucy Jackson, the bakery and café on Tib Street is set to launch soon, serving a range of breakfast and lunch dishes alongside their famous bakes. "We're keeping it simple - we're like a souped-up Greggs," says Iwan. "We want to find the good price bracket between a lunchtime price and a Greggs takeaway. I want to make it as affordable as possible." Breakfasts will include pancakes, granola and the usual suspects on toast, while lunch will see quiches, rolls, and salads made in store. In addition, SiOP SHOP will have a good vegan and vegetarian offering across the board. The spacious kitchen will allow the Blawd bakery - which is headed up by Lucy - to expand its operation, making doughnut flavours such as mince pie; rhubarb and custard; and peanut butter and jelly. Iwan Roberts and Lucy Jackson (Image: Andy Lambert) And Welsh-speakers will probably have noticed there's a touch of the Cymric to the cafe. "Theres an Welsh-English bilingual theme to the design, which has been designed by Steve Hockett at Wonder Room studio," says Iwan. "It's because I have a longing to speak Welsh, and hopefully I'll be able to converse more in my language. " The walls of the cafe are lined with some of Lucy and Iwan's favourite local artists, many of whom are good friends of theirs. Iwan says: "We want to treat it as quite a serious gallery in a way - this show is basically everybody I know." Artists displaying their work - which will also be available to buy - include Aliyah Hussain, Caroline Dowsett, John Powell-Jones and David Bailey. "We've built the place for them - that's the reason. I always had my friends in mind when I was building this. Creating a nice space for them to go to." And the cafe's fit-out is as creative as the artwork on the walls; everything has been made from scratch. "We didn't have a designer so we had to be quite creative about how we used the space," he says. "The way we approached it was very DIY. That was due to a financial constraint as well - we haven't got deep pockets, we're totally independent. "We just wanted to create a space where we were really happy, and we could spend our time. Hopefully a lot of other people will feel that as well." As well as art, the space will be used for other creative projects, and in the future they hope to run beer events. Iwan spent seven years working in the Edge Street bar Common, owned by Jonny Heyes and regarded as something of a Northern Quarter stalwart. "I'm inspired by Common, there's no doubt about it," says Iwan. "I'm terrifically thankful to them. You can see reflections of it everywhere. This is an ode to Common." SiOP SHOP is opening this weekend with a soft launch while they settle into the space. To keep up to date with their launch follow @ siopshop . What are people saying about donuts in Manchester, United Kingdom? This is a review for donuts in Manchester, United Kingdom:"I'm not a huge fan of Krispy Kreme donuts as I find the majority quite sickly but the Halloween range was very easy on the eye! A colleague brought a couple of boxes in as a treat for the office last week, I went for the spooky sprinkles donut which was basically a glazed ring with sprinkles on top. It was the perfect mid afternoon snack, washed down with a hot cup of tea. I prefer the glazed rings over the stuffed donuts as I find them way too stodgy and always end up feeling sick after. I have bought a couple of boxes from this store myself, usually as a gift for someone that's obsessed with them (as many are) and the shop itself is lovely. I've always found the staff to be very helpful. They do an ok coffee in store too."See more reviews for this business.AboutAbout YelpCareersPressInvestor RelationsTrust & SafetyContent GuidelinesAccessibility StatementTerms of ServicePrivacy PolicyAd ChoicesDiscoverYelp Project Cost GuidesCollectionsTalkEventsThe Local YelpYelp BlogSupportYelp MobileDevelopersRSSYelp for BusinessClaim your Business PageAdvertise on YelpYelp for Restaurant OwnersTable ManagementBusiness Success StoriesBusiness SupportYelp Blog for BusinessLanguagesEnglishCountriesUnited StatesAboutBlogSupportTermsPrivacy PolicyCopyright © 2004–2022 Yelp Inc. Whether you’re after an oat milk latte or a hearty brunch to help start your day in style, the spots listed below are bound to do the trick. Hungry for more information? Read on… Siop Shop Known for their punchy coffee and fluffy, extravagantly decorated doughnuts, it’s no surprise that Tib Street’s Welsh bake house Siop Shop has become a fast Northern Quarter favourite. A quick glance at their always innovative Instagram account will clue you in on the deep-filled doughnut treats they have on offer (the menu’s always changing but look out for the Lemon Meringue), plus they also serve up a nifty brunch menu for those after something a bit more filling. 53 Tib Street, Manchester, M4 1LS Find Out More Just Between Friends Take a short stroll up the road from Siop and you’ll find their Tib Street neighbours, Just Between Friends. Currently serving locally sourced coffee and a selection of sandwiches, soft drinks and baked treats (chocolate banana bread? Yes please.) through a hatch in their shop-front window, this cosy Northern Quarter coffee shop is continuing to serve up food and drink whilst adhering to socially distanced safety guidelines. Perfect! 56 Tib Street, Manchester, M4 1LG, Tel: 07818 022169 Find Out More Trove Ancoats Visit Trove’s Murray Street store at the back of Ancoats and you’ll find a delicious brunch menu featured alongside the take-away sourdough loaves and tasty bakes that made the venue so popular with Manchester locals. Cakes, jams and chutneys are also available to buy – but if it’s coffee you’re after, they’ll happily kit you out with an Americano, Latte or Flat White, complete with a range of milk alternatives to suit any kind of diet. 5 Murray Street, Ancoats, Manchester, M4 6HS, Tel: 0161 432 7184 Find Out More Ezra & Gil 2020’s craziness may have delayed the opening of their new Peter Street store but Ezra & Gil’s airy and rustic original Northern Quarter venue on the corner of Hilton Street is still taking orders. With a menu chock full of meals made with local ingredients (we’d recommend the filling chicken caesar salad or sausage butty on sourdough bread), Ezra is also the perfect place to grab a takeaway drink, with a range of teas and regionally-sourced coffees happily available. 20 Hilton Street, Manchester, M1 1FR Find Out More Idle Hands Pie’s the name of the game at Idle Hands, the Northern Quarter coffee house that features a different selection of sweet and savoury bakes every other day. In addition to pie, Idle Hands also sell beers and natural wines that can be taken away, alongside a coffee selection that’s conscious of customer satisfaction. Ethically sourced, their team want visitors to experience new and surprising flavours with each cup – making this a great spot to kick start your day in an unexpected way. 35 Dale Street, Manchester, M1 2HF Find Out More Mon 12 Oct Words: Simon Bland Published on: Mon 19 Oct 2020 You may also be interested in. BodyDunkin’ Donuts has opened its first-ever Manchester branch in the city centre today NOW OPEN! Published 11 months ago on February 8, 2021 By Alex Watson Dunkin' / Facebook Share Tweet Dunkin’ Donuts opens its first doughnut and coffee shop in Manchester city centre today. The world-famous American food brand, which first opened in 1950, has bagged a site on Deansgate. It takes over the old Over Under Coffee branch that quietly closed last year, after just under two years in the city. The site will be the tenth Dunkin’ Donuts in the UK and the second in Greater Manchester, after the first one opened in Bury at The Rock just before Christmas. Doughnuts will be baked fresh every morning and are available for takeaway and delivery via UberEats. As lockdown eases, seating will be available for customers inside. Orders are available now including the current ‘Buy 1 Get 1 Free’ offer and a large Valentine’s Day range.  12 Valentine’s Donuts will set you back £17 or a single one is available for £2.20, including ‘Heartbeat’ and ‘Sprinkled with Love’.  Dunkin’ also sell coffees, ice drinks including Frappes, Tea, Coffee and Lemonade plus takeaway bags of Original Ground Coffee. You can order here.  Related Topics:donuts Up Next Much-loved burger restaurant Fat Hippo is opening at new bowling alley in the Great Northern  Don't Miss The best dessert deliveries in Greater Manchester to treat yourself this weekend You may like . The best Manchester spots serving up vegan food for Veganuary Something to make Veganuary that little bit easier… Published 1 day ago on January 7, 2022 By Charlotte Puckering @purezza & @donersummer / Instagram It’s officially 2022 and, while the weather may be cold and dreary, many of us are kick starting the New Year the right way by embarking upon Veganuary. The month-long challenge, which has been around for a couple of years now, sees people attempt to eat only vegan food for the thirty-one days throughout January. Yep, not a single bit of meat or dairy for a whole month. But if you’re dreading your own Veganuary, fear not! Because there are a ton of restaurants here in Manchester offering delicious plant-based options certain to make your month a whole lot easier. Here’s what’s on offer… Manchester’s Finest Group Black Leaf. Nestled beneath the Northern Quarter’s Alvarium, Black Leaf boasts a fully vegan menu good enough to convert even the most loyal of meat eaters. The tapas menu, curated specially by Alvarium head chef Grace Stubbs, includes a number of tasty delights such as crispy King Oyster Mushroom ‘calamari’, chickpea ‘meatballs’ and Hassleback potatoes topped with tofu feta. Black Leaf, Alvarium, 8 Dorsey St,  Manchester M4 1LU alvariummcr.co.uk 07947 556275 @bundobust / Instagram Bundobust. We just couldn’t leave out Bundobust from a list about fantastic meat-free food; while the popular Indian street food restaurant, which recently opened it’s own brewery down Oxford Road, has a strictly vegetarian menu, it offers some great dairy free alternatives, too. Vegan highlights include the Bhel Puri, a Mumbai street snack of broken samosa pastry, puffed rice, peas, onion, pomegranate seeds and tomato. There is also the Bhaji Butty, Bundobust’s flavoursome take on a plant-based burger and the Chole Saag, a spicy curry of stewed chickpeas and spinach. Bundobust, 61 Piccadilly, M1 2AG & Bundobust Brewery, St. James’s Bldg, 61-69 Oxford St, M1 6EQ bundobust.com @donersummer / Instagram Doner Summer. Found in the music venue-food hall hybrid YES, the ‘vegan junk food’ king Doner Summer is truly changing the meat-free burger game; I mean, just look at those burgers! Available both to dine in and to order for a takeaway, Doner Summer offers a selection of meat and dairy-free kebabs and burgers, including the Bad Girl Kebab consisting of ‘döner’, garlic chilli chick’n, pickled pink cabbage, salad and a whole load of tasty and garlicky sauces. There’s also a choice of fried ‘chick’n’ burgers that are good enough to hoodwink even the most seasoned of KFC customers. Doner Summer, YES, 38 Charles St, Manchester M1 7DB donnersummer.co.uk  0161 273 2725 @purezza / Instagram Purezza. The Northern Quarter’s Purezza is the place to go if you’re looking for exclusively vegan (and absolutely sensational) pizza; their menu boasts a long list of plant-based toppings including vegan sausage, BBQ pulled ‘porketta’, and black truffle. They’re also offering 50% off all food throughout January to celebrate Veganuary, so make sure to get yourself down in the next couple of weeks. Purezza, 75-77 High Street, Manchester M4 1FS purezza.co.uk 0161 521 5516 @reservewines / Instagram Reserve Wines. Okay, this isn’t exactly a dining spot, but it is perfect for those taking Veganuary to the next level by including their drinks in the challenge. Found in West Disbury, this independent bottle shops stocks some of the world’s finest wines and spirits, including a number of vegan wines (because, sorry to break it to you, but wine isn’t actually vegan). Reserve Wines, 176 Burton Road, West Didsbury, Manchester M20 1LH reservewines.co.uk 0161 706 0565 @delhihousecafe / Instagram Delhi House Cafe. While not strictly a vegan restaurant, Delhi House Cafe, found inside the Corn Exchange, boasts a number of impressive vegan dishes perfect for Veganuary and beyond. Plant-based highlights include the Avocado Aloo Chatt, made up of fried avocado and fried potato in a mint & tamarind Chutney. There is also the Tawa Dal Tadka, fragrant cumin tempered split pigeon lentils served with a tandoori roti. Named after his first born son Luciano, Gino’s latest venture will be taking over the former Piccolino site on London Road with the promise to bring  an ‘upmarket Italian dining experience’ to Cheshire. This will mark the second opening for Luciano by Gino D’Acampo after its debut at the ME London Hotel in the West End. @lucianobyginodacampo / Instagram @lucianobyginodacampo / Instagram The restaurant will be hosting an exclusive evening on January 24th where guests will be able to experience the new menu and meet the Italian chef himself to ask questions and learn more of his plans for the future, both on-screen and off. Those looking to dine in advance can book ahead now, however, as the restaurant takes over the site from Piccolino. Gino has spoken of his excitement surrounding the new opening, saying: “I have many friends in Alderley Edge and the surrounding areas, it’s an amazing place and one in which I’m super excited to open. “The location on London Road couldn’t be any better, it’s a fantastic property. The Bull & Bear, which is found inside the elusive Stock Exchange Hotel and boasts an impressive menu curated by celebrity chef Tom Kerridge, was named as having the best Sunday roast in the whole country by review site Rate Good Roasts. Rate Good Roasts has a team of dedicated roast reviewers who taste and rate roast dinners from different venues across the whole country. Each venue is rated on the same ten criteria, which is used to work out a percentage score. @rategoodroasts / Instagram And low and behold, The Bull & Bear came out on top on their Top 10 2021 roasts, with an impressive score of 95% for the quality of its meat, potatoes, the restaurant’s service, drinks, sides, and the overall restaurant setting. The only rating the restaurant struggled with was the value rating where it got a score of 8/10; though this might not come as a too much of a surprise considering it is priced at an eye watering £39 for two courses, or £46.50 for a full three courses, one of the priciest roasts in town. The restaurant responded on their Instagram account following their victory, writing: “Ok we are feeling pretty proud today. We have been hailed by @rategoodroasts as the best place for a Sunday roast in the UK. Yes team!” The Bull & Bear are currently offering a selection of three roasts on their Sunday menu – a dry aged Hereford sirloin of beef with carrots, buttered hispi and roast potatoes, a roasted Norfolk brown turkey with sage and chestnut stuffing, pigs in blanket and seasonal vegetables, or a Salt-aged pork belly with caramelised apple puree and celeriac. @bullandbearmcr / Instagram For vegetarians, there is the option of a Confit Autumn mushroom tart with braised artichoke, orange, horseradish and winter truffle. Two other venues from Greater Manchester made the Rate Good Roasts list; The Bank in Delph coming in at sixth place and the Edinburgh Castle in Ancoats landing in joint seventh. The North of England itself also fared well in the round up, with The Wheatsheaf Inn in Brigsteer, Cumbria coming in at third place for its roast efforts and Crosby’s Mustard and Co in fourth. BodyA new donut and cookie shop has opened in the Northern Quarter Georgina Pellant 6 March 2020 2 years ago City of Manchester, Food & Drink Share on facebook Share Share on twitter Tweet Share on linkedin Share Share on whatsapp Chat After two weeks of soft launch that saw them sell out every single day, a new donut and cookie shop has officially opened on Hilton Street just off Stevenson Square in the Northern Quarter. Housed in Selina hostel’s newest addition, Wilson’s Coffee, it’s called Gooey – and their cookies do exactly what they say on the tin, so to speak, staying gooey inside for up to two and half hours after coming out of the oven. Head baker Lewis Loughman took over a month to put together the recipe, which sees each cookie indulgently stacked with high-quality chocolate so that they almost melt in your mouth.   View this post on Instagram   A post shared by Gooey (@gooeyco) on Mar 6, 2020 at 3:31am PST He is the first baker in the North West to create something like this – and we suspect his cookies are about to kickstart a new trend in the region. Asked what the secret is to making them so gooey, he quips “sleep deprivation”. Honing his skills at PKB and Takk respectively, Lewis trained under bread genius and croissant savant Mark Wegner, who had set up Albert Schloss’s bakery on Peter Street before moving to run Pot Kettle Black’s in house bakery. It was during this time he was introduced to food influencers and Gooey founders Jake Ansbro and Paddy Brown, who run the popular Instagram page @Eatmcr with over 100k followers. Having had the concept in mind for quite some time, for them it was about finding the right moment to unveil it. They have also brought in Manchester restaurateur Sax Arshad, behind the likes of Mughli, Evelyn’s and Les Deux Pizza bar, as a business partner. Whilst we think Gooey’s cookies might just be the best we’ve ever tried in the city, it’s fair to say that their donuts are pretty special too. Alongside their white chocolate, milk chocolate, dark chocolate, and double choc cookies, the donuts will be baked fresh every morning and served from a special Wilson’s Coffee window in a nod to the bakeries of New York. Both vegan and non-vegan donuts will be available daily, with classic fillings of raspberry jam, chocolate custard, and vanilla custard. And Gooey is also planning some donut specials and collaborations, the first a Kinder Bueno donut collab with Black Milk Cereal. Speaking on the launch, Gooey co-founder Jake Ansbro said: “We’re really excited to bring Gooey to the Northern Quarter. “This has been a real labour of love for us, something we’ve been waiting on the right moment for over a year and we’re looking forward to seeing everyone enjoying our new offering.” As a launch day special, all donuts bought on Thursday 12th will be just £1, going up to £3.50 after that. Head down to find their fresh cookies seven days a week, and make sure to try the donuts, available from Wednesday through to Sunday. Since then their success has gone onto inventing a coffee trike (yes, coffee on a bicycle) and the opening of coffee shops in Deansgate and MediaCity. 62 Bridge Street is their newest project. The coffee is roasted right in the heart of Manchester at Grindsmith’s own roastery and laboratory. The building is impossible to miss, as the exterior is decorated in a floral mosaic. Inside, its simple décor is beautifully designed with blush accents, draped lights, a living plant wall and of course it features neon lighting. It’s the new hangout of dreams for coffee bean lovers.Trove, Murray StreetImage: bucketandspadesblog.com via Google Images From weekend market stalls selling homemade chutneys and jams, to now proud owners of Trove, husband and wife team Marcus and Katy Saide set up shop in Ancoats recently. Following great success at their tiny Levenshulme site, the Scandi styled coffee and brunch spot radiates all things cool and calm. High ceilings, soft furnishings and a hint of pink surround an open kitchen and a counter brimming with fresh bakes every day (their lemon and meringue tarts are rather exquisite).GK Gallery and Tea Room, Chapel Street. Image: GK Gallery and Tea Room via FacebookAmongst the hustle and bustle of Chapel Street, sits family run GK Gallery and Tea Room. This isn’t any old spot for a hot beverage and homemade cake, (including a great selection of vegan and gluten free sweet treats) because this coffee shop has their very own art gallery. Tucked upstairs, the gallery focuses on displaying the work of Salford and Manchester graduates for six weeks at a time. A great spot for those who like to submerge in the quiet and gaze into the city streets.ManCoCo, Hewitt Street. Image: Vinnievaz via Flickr ManCoCo is a micro artisan coffee bean roastery, tucked under a railway arch (Arch 84 to be precise). This unique Deansgate location is home to half roastery, half coffee shop. The quaint space is filled with wooden furniture, the essence of fresh coffee and dimmed lighting to create a cosy atmosphere. When visiting ManCoCo, you can hear the faint rumble from trains passing above. Senses galore!Siop Shop, Tib Street. Image: @siopshop via TwitterOne of Northern Quarters greatest residents, Siop Shop is the project of Iwan Roberts and Lucy Jackson from Blawd Bakery. Known for some of the best sugary delights in Manchester, the café makes fresh baked goods every day. Their specialty doughnuts are a work of art and their coffee has quite the magical touch too. Siop Shops space is very creative. It’s quirky and artists exhibitions can often be found displayed on the walls. Advertisement Advertisement

H2WithAnchorsBest Cafes in Manchester
Body6 Must-visit Cafes in ManchesterEnglish 5 o’clock tea? No, that’s so passé. Especially in Manchester!Manchester is every coffee lover’s dream! Ever since the third-wave coffee movement became more popular, cafés in Manchester have been growing like mushrooms after the rain and now the city serves the best cups around. From big mugs of deep dark filter coffee and strong espressos to creamy lattes and oat milk flat whites with perfect microbubbles. There are so many cafés in Manchester where you can feed your coffee hunger, that the choice can be quite overwhelming.Luckily there’s one area of the city, where, without walking miles, you can even visit most of the coffee shops in one day. If you can handle coffee jitters. The Northern Quarter – this creative hub is home to quirky stores, cool bars, restaurants, independent cafés and coffee shops. It’s not big, as the whole of Manchester really, but I’d say you can find everything you need to feed your heart and soul…and your belly. The cafés I picked for you are all located in the Northern Quarter. Well, most of them.I decided on x cafés, that I would give my life for. Ok, let’s not be so dramatic, but those are the ones I visit the most often and I vouch for the quality of their food and coffee. They all have this minimalistic, hipster vibe, but it doesn’t mean they’re not cosy, prices won’t break the bank and the best thing is, that they are all independent (I think). No chains allowed! So here are the top 6 must-visit cafes in Manchester, England.Table of ContentsBest Cafes in Manchester. Foundation Coffee House. Red Eye, Black Eye, Dead Eye…no, those are not nicknames of spies. Those are types of coffee available in Foundation. Hope you’re intrigued.Foundation is a place where I’ve spent the most hours. Apart from the great variety of delicious, speciality coffee and tasty food, you can also find in Foundation a great space to work. And I should really say: “Foundations”, because there are 3 locations in Manchester. FDN is one of Manchester’s largest independent coffee shops, as a company and in size. You can literally spend the whole day there, enjoying minimalistic yet cosy interiors, sipping their luxurious flat whites or flavourful tea, nibbling on avo toast or one of the tasty cakes, while getting this work done. Good workflow and free WiFi guaranteed.Locations. Foundation Coffee House in Northern QuarterLever Street, Manchester M1 1JBFoundation Coffee House WhitworthWhitworth Street, Manchester M1 6LS Foundation Coffee House PortlandPortland Street, Manchester M1 3HU(Because of Coronavirus, this location is temporarily closed)Just between friends. The name of this café couldn’t be more accurate. When you go there, you know that this is exactly where you’ll end up: just between friends.Apart from delicious coffee (the best oat milk flat white in town) and tasty sweet and savoury snacks, the lovely owner and chatty baristas will make you feel like you’re at home. For me, Just between friends offers the best atmosphere from all the mentioned coffee shops. I really liked going there on a typical rainyManchester Saturday or Sunday, squeezing into a cosy space and watching the baristas create coffees. If you were lucky, you could even meet the “café dog”, a cute sausage dogcalled Wolfie. And in the summer, you just have to try their Affogato made with homemade ice cream.Unfortunately, now, because of Coronavirus, Just between friends in the Northern Quarter is more of a takeaway, with some secret outdoor seating behind the cafe.Locations. Just between friends in Northern Quarter (takeaways only)56 Tib Street, Manchester M4 1LGJust between friends in AncoatsBeehive Mill, Jersey Street, Manchester M4 6JGSiop Shop. Or in other words, donut heaven. If you like donuts, you can’t miss this place!Previously working from a basement of a bar as a bakery called: “Blawd”, the wonderful Welsh bakers made a name for themselves making some of the bests cakes and donuts in Manchester. Now in their first café you can try their artisanal, incredibly delicious donuts, cakes and sandwiches. And let’s not forget about freshly brewed aromatic coffee.Siop Shop offers as well a great selection of vegetarian food and vegan donuts! But if you’re a vegan, you have to be quick. Vegan donuts sell out super fast. The donuts are quite pricey (around £3,20 for one), especially compared to back home in Poland, but if you want to treat yourself, this is the place to go.Location. 53 Tib Street, Manchester M4 1LSRelated post: 13 Top Activities to Do in Manchester on a Rainy DayTakk. That was the first coffee shop I ever visited in Manchester and after trying their insanely delicious brownie, I knew I’d be coming back.Nordic-inspired Takk was a result of travels through Scandinavia and Iceland and a tribute to the Icelandic people and their love for coffee. The owners wanted to create a welcoming space to work, meet and talk. And they did a great job. Takk offers a great selection of tea, coffee, pastries and a brunch/lunch menu. And as a result of being inspired by Scandinavia, I’d say that Takk in the Northern Quarter provides the cosiest atmosphere from all the places mentioned. But there are 2 other Takk locations/outlets you can visit.Locations. Takk in Northern Quarter6 Tariff Street, Manchester M1 2FFTakk University Garden138 Oxford Road, Manchester M13 9GPTakk at Hatch (it’s more of a takeaway location)Unit 1 Hatch, Oxford Road, Manchester M1 7EDTrove. It’s technically not in Northern Quarter, where I promised all the cafés in Manchester will be, but it’s close enough.Ancoats is a new up and coming neighbourhood in Manchester, separated from the Northern Quarter with a street. But Trove, yes… Trove is my “go to” brunch place! This family-run café-bakery and super polite staff and an interior that you could describe as minimal meets rustic obviously had to make this list.Their thoughtfully curated seasonal menu, freshly baked sourdough, homemade chutneys, cakes and pastries will blow your taste buds away.Add to this flavourful Earl Grey tea or one of their delicious coffees and you have a perfect Sunday brunch experience.Location. Trove Ancoats5 Murray Street, Manchester M4 6HSYou can find another Trove outlet in Levenshulme.Pollen. This is technically not a coffee shop. And it’s also not in the Northern Quarter.Pollen is a “Sourdough & Viennoiserie” bakery. That’s what they call themselves, and if you have a problem with understanding what that means as I did, it’s an artisan bakery and patisserie. If that is still too much – it’s a place where they bake delicious sourdough bread, make the best cake in Manchester, pastries and brew aromatic coffee.Pollen was born from a love of great food and started out as a takeaway, located in a railway arch underneath Manchester’s main station. Now it’s a big, yet minimalistic, fully functioning bakery and café, located on the canal in Ancoats, that attracts people from Manchester and even from all over the country.Despite not being the cheapest place (I’d even say it’s quite expensive) I’ve never seen Pollen empty and I’m there almost every Friday to buy bread for the weekend. But the delicious bread and pastries, incredibly looking sandwiches, thoughtfully put together brunches and lunches and aromatic, freshly brewed coffee are all worth it.As a special treat, you sometimes get to see the extremely fluffy chow chow, “café dog” Maru, who hangs around the bakery.Location. Pollen Bakery8 New Union Street, Manchester M4 6FQHope you enjoyed my mini guide to, according to me, the top 6 must-visit cafés in Manchester city centre.Every place I mentioned here offers quality coffee and delicious food, so no matter which place you pick, you won’t be disappointed. So prepare your taste buds for flavour nirvana and enjoy!Pin it for laterAbout the authorHi, I’m Aga. BodyBest places to get doughnuts in ManchesterApril 3, 2018 By Katerina LeeDonuts? Or Doughnuts? It surely doesn't matter which way you spell it when they taste this good. These places compiled go all out to make your do(ugh)nut senses go insane and make the 99p Asda’s own bag of jam doughnuts look like a monstrosity. Siop Shop It’s a literally a case of too many doughnuts, not enough time at Siop Shop. They like to keep things seasonal (or even weather related like their Snowball doughnut that kept us all entertained during the Beasts of the East) and have introduced the hot cross bun doughnut just in time for Easter. Their classic glazed and vanilla are probably in my top 2 two best doughnuts in the city, or maybe even ever? Siop Shop,53 Tib St, Manchester M4 1LS Common The original Blawd Co. venture, but why begrudge them when their doughnuts are spectacular. Baked fresh in the in-house bakery, with delicious choices such as salted caramel, vanilla custard or a good traditional raspberry jam. Common, 39-41 Edge St, Manchester M4 1HW Ancoats General Store This Northern Quarter food Mecca is home to a range of baked goods which will have you coming back again and again for more. But, that being said, the real star of the show has to be the doughnuts  which are perfectly paired with one of the artisanal coffees. Ancoats General Store, 57 Great Ancoats Street, Manchester M4 5AB Solita Ice cream doughnut. Great combo. And it’s even better than the ice creams you get from Mr. Whippy! Because the doughnut itself is also drizzled in chocolate and has chocolate pieces all over it. Guaranteed to put you in a food coma. Solita NQ, Turner St, Manchester M4 1DW Hawksmoor What? Posh restaurant serves doughnuts? You better believe it, and you better leave some room for after your steaks, because Hawksmoor serves up mini doughnuts with a dipping sauce that you’d be foolish not to order. Hawksmoor Manchester 184-186 Deansgate, Manchester M3 3WB Manchester Doughnut Company Operating from a tiny pub in Salford, Manchester Doughnut Company does exactly what it says on the tin, and then some. Fancy cereal on top of your doughnut? Try the crunchy nut and cereal milk doughnut. Why not go wild and try the bacon topped delight? Manchester Doughnut Company,11 bloom Street, Manchester, United Kingdom Cabana Again, doughnuts in a lush Brazilian barbecue? That’s correct. The Chocolate Raindrops doughnut is every bit as good as it sounds but they even have a version of doughnut holes with their Bolinhos de Chuva stuffed with Nutella. Brilliant. Cabana,  The Corn Exchange, Exchange Square, Manchester M4 3TR Comments. comments Related articles.

Body5 Donut Shops In Manchester That Are Too Good To Ignore by Briseis Preston April 23, 2018 0 Shares 0 0 https://www.instagram.com/p/BdfaNmEHcXk/?taken-by=newyorkerdinerhttps://www.instagram.com/p/BbWkiaABHXd/?taken-by=common_barhttps://www.instagram.com/p/BgGLOh3FW5t/?taken-by=siopshopThe city of Manchester has never had a shortage of delicious sweet treats to discover within its bakeries, restaurants and dessert dens – but there’s an exciting new trend involving one delicious morsel in particular that’s too good to ignore. The humble donut is back in vogue, with donut shops popping up everywhere. Manchester’s donut shops have so much to offer; we’re talking crazy fillings, ridiculous toppings and delish flavour combos. Forget that summer is on the way, agree that round is a sexy shape (donuts are the sexiest of baked goods after all) and hit up these 5 donut shops in Manchester that are too good to ignore!1. New Yorker Diner. Tucked away underground and well known for its divine American-inspired eats such as buttermilk fried chicken on waffles, New Yorker Diner also has a penchant for creating donut based desserts that sound too good to be true. Heard of ice cream sandwiches? Thought so. Heard of ice cream donut sandwiches? Well now you have (thank us later). Dubbed ‘The Milky Bun’, this absolute gift from the donut heavens is as good as it sounds. Think of the fabulous combo of hot and cold, sweet and soft all at the same time. We’ll take 10, please.2. Manchester Doughnut Company. The Manchester Doughnut Company was started by local chef Ed Beech seeking to fill a gap in the market for more eclectic donut flavours. Handmade in small batches, Ed creates flavour combinations such as white chocolate and pumpkin donuts, butterscotch and bourbon donuts and donuts topped with Crunchy Nut Cereals! The secret to these donuts is the slow proving process used to make the dough (although covering them in butterscotch once they’ve been fried can’t hurt either eh?) You can find these beauties at The King’s Arms, and at The Makers Market in Spinningfields and Didsbury every month. Advertisement 3. Common. Self-described bar, eatery, coffee shop and bakery, Common is the ideal place to head for the full works. Their donuts are fantastic and come in all manner of belt popping varieties such as salted caramel, white chocolate and raspberry and coffee and walnut. You can check out the hip art adorning the walls while you digest and firmly tell yourself you’re not allowed a second donut. What happens in Common, stays in Common. You really need to visit these donut shops in Manchester. Advertisement 4. Tea Hive Chorlton. A cheeky tram ride takes you away from the bright(ish) lights of Manchester’s city centre and puts you in the chilled out, hipster area of Chorlton filled with micro-breweries and quaint coffee shops bursting with handmade foods. Tea Hive Chorlton is one of such lovely cafes, and one of their specialties is mini ‘dipping’ donuts that come with different dips such as sweet lemon curd, chocolate crème or raspberry jam. These bite-sized morsels are perfect for when you want to treat yourself and not feel too guilty afterward.5. SiOP SHOP. SiOP SHOP is one of Manchester’s coolest cafes that just so happens to double up as a donut shop, with some of the tastiest donuts on offer. Fillings such as chocolate and vanilla custards, homemade fruit jams and banoffee crème are all available, the list goes on and on. Don’t even get us started on the toppings and glazes! A serious favourite is their white chocolate custard donut with a blueberry glaze and for obvious reason. What’s even better is that they also make delicious vegan donuts too – donuts are for everyone!Have you been to any of these donut shops in Manchester?
